To get the best results, spray a solvent like 009 down the barrel, attach the phosphor bronze brush to the rod, and scrub through the bore several times. Finish the job by attaching a patch to a Bisley or Parker Hale jag, pushing it straight through from the chamber to the muzzle, and repeating if necessary.
