This pre-owned D.R.G.M Tell II DRP .177 air pistol is a fascinating example of early German airgun engineering, originating from the historic gunmaking town of Zella-Mehlis. Produced between 1927 and 1936, this model reflects the craftsmanship and innovation that made the region famous, alongside manufacturers such as Walther and Anschutz.
The Tell II features a distinctive concentric design, where the barrel is housed within the piston and mainspring assembly rather than sitting above or ahead of it. This clever configuration results in a compact and streamlined pistol, and later influenced British designs such as the Acvoke and Thunderbolt Junior. Its smoothbore barrel is designed for .177 pellets, paired with simple fixed sights consisting of a ball foresight and notch rear sight.
Markings on the pistol include D.R.G.M Tell II D.R.P on the piston chamber, with factory logo stamps associated with Venuswaffenwerke. These markings indicate registered design and patent status within Germany at the time, adding further historical significance.
This particular example is in working condition, cocking and firing as expected. The original wooden grips are chequered and remain free from cracks or splits. The metal finish shows honest wear, with much of the original bluing faded from the barrel and action, leaving only light traces.
Increasingly difficult to find in full working order, the Tell II is a highly collectible and unusual piece. Its compact design, historical background, and mechanical originality make it a standout addition for collectors of vintage and antique airguns. As a pre-1939 air pistol, it qualifies under current UK antique airgun exemptions, allowing direct delivery.
