This pre-owned Webley Mark 1 Air Pistol is an early pre-war example dating from approximately 1924–1925 and features the desirable straight grip frame. Identified using the reference work by Dennis Hillier, the pistol corresponds with the correct early stampings found on the side of the action.
The pistol retains its original walnut grip panels, with the classic Webley flying pellet logo inset into the left-hand grip. These early straight grip models are sought after by collectors due to their historical significance and limited production period before later grip design changes.
Considering its age, the pistol remains in good overall condition. The metalwork shows signs of honest age-related wear including light tarnishing and small areas of rust spotting on the body, consistent with a piece approaching a century old. These marks do not detract from the historical character of the pistol and reflect its originality.
An interesting feature of this example is the retailer stamp on the back strap reading W.R Pape Newcastle, indicating that the pistol was very likely originally sold through this historic British gunmaker and retailer.
This early Webley air pistol represents a genuine piece of British airgun history and would make an excellent addition to any vintage airgun collection or display.
